ABOUT SSB PROCEDURES

The Services Selection Board (SSB) functions as a body responsible for appraising aspiring candidates aiming to join the ranks of officers within the Indian Armed Forces. Employing a standardized assessment system, the board meticulously gauges a candidate's suitability for an officer role, encompassing facets of personality, intelligence, and interviews. These evaluations encompass both written examinations and practical, task-oriented assessments.

Comprising a panel of evaluators, the SSB draws from officers within the Indian Armed Forces, specializing as Psychologists, Group Testing Officers (GTO), and Interviewing Officers. Occasionally, a psychologist involved in the process might not directly stem from the armed forces.

The SSB evaluation process spans a duration of five days, incorporating a comprehensive array of assessments and examinations.

On the first/second day of assessment, candidates go through the psychology test - stage ii, which involves multiple evaluations.

Initially, candidates participate in the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) or picture story writing task. Unlike the PPDT, this test uses clearer pictures. Candidates view a picture for thirty seconds and then craft a story within the subsequent four minutes. This process continues with twelve sequentially displayed images. The last picture is a blank slide, inviting candidates to create a story based on their own choice. Unlike the PPDT, candidates do not need to remember the number of characters in each picture, and there is no group discussion involved.

following the tat, candidates move on to the Word Association Test (WAT). They are presented with sixty simple, everyday words displayed sequentially, each shown for fifteen seconds. Candidates jot down the first thought that comes to mind in response to each word.

Other assessments conducted on day 2 include the Situation Reaction Test (SRT). Candidates receive a booklet containing 60 situations for which they must provide responses within a 30-minute timeframe.

Lastly, candidates complete the Self-Description Test (SDT), consisting of five questions that delve into perceptions related to Parents, Teachers/Employers, Friends, the candidates' own self-perception and what kind of person he want to be.
